The Korea Times will hold its second Korean Language Speaking Contest this year, inviting foreign nationals and overseas Koreans who are non-native Korean speakers to showcase their Korean language skills through creative video submissions. Participants can enter the contest by creating and uploading a video in Korean on YouTube in either the long-form (2-3 minutes) or short-form (under 1 minute) category. All submitted videos must include the hashtag #howdykorea in the video title and must be set to public.
For the long-form category, participants can choose from the following topics: introducing their favorite K-pop idol, drama, movie, actor, or webtoon; sharing a funny or surprising personal experience related to living in Korea or learning Korean; or comparing similarities and differences between Korean culture and their own culture.
Participants selecting the short-form category can opt for one of these topics: comparing Korean culture, food, or language with their own; introducing themselves while imitating the voice, accent, or speech style of a character from a Korean drama or movie; or highlighting an interesting aspect of Korea or a unique characteristic of Koreans.
Interested participants must complete and submit the online application form by scanning the provided QR code. The submission deadline is Sunday, April 27th. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, May 14th, through The Korea Times (print and online editions) and on the Howdy Korea YouTube channel. The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 29th. Winners residing overseas will have the option to participate online. Detailed information on the prizes and further contest guidelines are available on the official Korea Times website. Please refer to the table below for detailed information on prizes.
