Debut Essay from the 58th Reporters
Like many students, I have always envisioned my college life to be a vibrant journey of exciting experiences, just like the ones I have seen in countless dramas. I wanted to be a college student who strolled through campus like the main character of a drama, forging connections with new people from other regions and feeling a bond in a club. Reality, however, presented its own challenges. A two-hour commute, coupled with severe travel sickness, threatened to disrupt my ideal vision.
To my surprise, I saw an advertisement for recruiting new reporters for The Dongguk Post at the freshman orientation. Although I did not have a strong ambition to become a journalist, the moment I saw that advertisement, I had a vague feeling that I ought to give it a try. Strangely enough, I soon felt a strong sense of certainty that becoming a member of The Dongguk Post was meant to be. After spending countless days and nights working on my application and going through a nerve-wracking interview that felt just as intense as a college exam, I was thrilled to learn that I had been accepted as a reporter.
I have grown significantly as a cub reporter over the past semester. During my college entrance exam preparation, I felt obligated to participate in various activities that I did not enjoy. On the other hand, now I find great fulfillment in pursuing activities that genuinely interest me, which is much more in line with my ideal lifestyle. To be honest, I was quite lost at first, as I had little knowledge or experience as a reporter. Not only did I have to figure out the direction of the article and write it, but the first step of deciding on the topic of the article was a challenge for me. The countless challenges that I have faced have provided me with valuable insights and personal growth. Building on this experience, I am committed to continuing my work as a reporter for the next three semesters. I am committed to carrying out my responsibilities as a journalist with diligence and truthfulness.
I hope that, as time goes by, my experiences at The Dongguk Post will become a comforting retreat for me whenever I feel overwhelmed by reality. I am excited to connect with individuals from various fields and be inspired by their enthusiasm through my involvement in The Dongguk Post. Besides, I look forward to paving the way for future generations of The Dongguk Post members, sharing my experiences, and fostering a legacy of excellence. This experience has been invaluable, and I am eager to continue growing as a journalist and a member of The Dongguk Post. I hope that the articles I write will be a great inspiration to someone and become an irreplaceable part of society. Stick around with me!
