Why the Dongguk Post?
In an era where traditional forms of media such as television and newspaper are falling behind, due to the rise of social media, defining the purpose of our organization has become more important than ever.
Through the winter break, reporters at the Dongguk Post collectively and continuously searched for the meaning of the organization. Why do we exist? For whom do we exist? What impacts are we having on campus life? It was definitely not a feel-good process, because we had to admit that our status as a press organization had been deteriorating through the past few years.
Our biggest struggle was to define the target audience. For whom were we writing for? To rearrange directions, clearly defining our target audience was critical. Meeting after meeting, and research after research, we came to a conclusion, which was that we had to set our target audience as the foreigners – international students, exchange students, and foreign professors – on campus.
From then on, change took place, and efforts to reach the target audience’s interest were made. In this context, we launched a new series called “Trip (p3),” introducing interesting destinations to check out in Korea, and brainstormed topics, imagining what we as readers would be interested in if we were to read a school newspaper in a foreign country. Although we actively advertised our newspaper during the club fair event, still, not enough students know about this newspaper. We are futher planning to write articles that e=are estimated to spark our target audience’s interests, and we believe with accurate research and efficient efforts, the Dongguk Post can regain its significance and make a prominent impact on the campus life of foreigners at Dongguk.
Current social issues in Korea, introducing the culture, sharing Dongguk University news, introducing destinations, and much more are planned to come. Dear reader, we hope you stay tuned – and possibly tune in other!
