[Notice] Admission Guidelines for International Undergraduate Students, Spring Semester 2026
Dongguk University’s admission process for international students, both for freshman admission and transfer admission, is carried out according to the departments and majors specified in the admission guidelines, which are available in Korean, Chinese, and English. The eligibility requirements are divided into nationality, academic background, and language proficiency.
For nationality eligibility, applicants must be foreign nationals whose parents are both foreign nationals.
For academic background eligibility, freshman applicants must have graduated from a regular high school, be expected to graduate by February 2026, or be recognized under relevant laws as having an equivalent level of education. Transfer admission is divided into admission to the second year and admission to the third year. To apply for admission to the second year, applicants must first meet the eligibility requirements for freshman admission, and they must also satisfy one of the following: they must have completed at least the first year, which means two regular semesters excluding summer and winter sessions, at a four-year university in Korea or abroad, or be expected to complete it by February 2026; or they must have graduated from a two-year or three-year junior college, either in Korea or abroad, or be expected to graduate by February 2026. In the case of students from foreign universities, they must have completed at least one quarter of the minimum credits required for a bachelor’s degree by February 2026, and they must submit documentary evidence. To apply for admission to the third year, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for freshman admission, and they must also satisfy one of the following: they must have completed at least the second year, which means four regular semesters excluding summer and winter sessions, at a four-year university in Korea or abroad, or be expected to complete it by February 2026; or they must have graduated from a two-year or three-year junior college, either in Korea or abroad, or be expected to graduate by February 2026. In the case of students from foreign universities, they must have completed at least one half of the minimum credits required for a bachelor’s degree by February 2026, and they must submit documentary evidence.
For language proficiency eligibility, applicants must meet one of the following five conditions. First, they must hold a certificate of level three or higher on the Test of Proficiency in Korean, either the standard paper-based version or the internet-based version. Second, they must have completed the Intermediate 1B level of the King Sejong Institute Korean language program. Third, they must have completed four semesters of the regular Korean language program at the Dongguk University Korean Language Education Center and obtained at least level three. Fourth, they must have completed four semesters of the regular Korean language program at the Korean Language Education Center of a four-year university in Korea and obtained at least level four. Fifth, they must have passed level three of the Korean language placement test administered by Dongguk University. In the case of the third and fourth options, all semesters must have an attendance rate of at least eighty percent, and applicants who have completed fewer than four semesters are not eligible to apply. Applicants who satisfy any one of the first four conditions are not required to take the Korean language placement test. The placement test is only available to students who apply for it at the time of application submission, it cannot be taken overseas, and it must be taken in person at Dongguk University.
The admission schedule for international undergraduate students for the Spring 2026 semester is as follows. Online application submission will take place from Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025, to Monday, October 13th, 2025, through the website www.jinhakapply.com.
After the application, required documents must be submitted either by mail or in person. Submission by mail is available from Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025, to Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, while in-person submission is available from Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, to Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, at the Global Student Team office, Room 9139, 9th floor, New Engineering Building.
The Korean Language Placement Test will be held on Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, but only for applicants who register for it. It is not a mandatory test, and the exact time and location will be announced on the university website. The practical examination will take place on Thursday, October 30th, 2025, and will be required for applicants to the College of Fine Arts, the Department of Theatre, and the Department of Korean Traditional Music. The results of admission will be announced on Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, on the university website.
Successful applicants will be required to pay their tuition fees between late January 2026 and early February 2026. The exact payment period and method will be provided in the admission guide for accepted students. The Certificate of Admission will be issued in February 2026. Orientation will also be held in February 2026, and course registration is scheduled for late February 2026. The semester will officially begin on Monday, March 2nd, 2026.
