[472 Round-up] Dongguk University Hosts 2025 Young Camp “Juingong, Opening the Gate of Reflection”

Dongguk University will hold the 2nd Young Camp on September 16th, 2025, at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul. This year’s program will offer young Buddhists a chance for deep self-reflection, inspired by the Pensive Bodhisattva’s (Bangasayusang) quiet contemplation on the path to enlightenment.

Monk Don-Gwan, the Dongguk University chairman, emphasized the spiritual value of the event; “Buddhism is a trusted spiritual companion that awakens the potential and compassion within you.” The camp aims to share the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha as they appear in daily life.

Following last year’s success, the 2025 Young Camp will highlight the theme of “togetherness.” The planning committee emphasized that anyone can become the protagonist of their own life by looking inward. This idea reflects the Buddhist teaching, “Be a light unto yourself and a light unto the Dharma” (jadeungmyeong, beopdeungmyeong). Being a Juingong (main character) is not just for movie roles; it is for anyone willing to reflect on their own thoughts and feelings. To commemorate the event, participants will receive 600 handcrafted danju (prayer beads) in the symbolic colors blue and orange during the precept-taking ceremony, replacing the traditional ordination ritual. The event will include a precept ceremony, performances, and activities to help students reflect and see themselves as the Juingong of their lives. For more details about the event, students can visit the official Dongguk University Young Camp Instagram (@youngcamp_dgu).
