2025-08-12     Hwang Ji-woo

Dongguk University will conduct the 2025 Fall Semester Freshman English Placement Test as outlined below. All eligible freshmen are required to take the test according to the following schedule.

The test is open to two groups of students. First, foreign freshmen enrolling in September 2025, and second, students returning or readmitted in the 2025-2 semester without any previously earned credits or completed semesters. Transfer students are excluded from the test, as they are not required to take EAS courses. Students who have already taken the English Placement Test prior to the first semester of 2025 are not allowed to retake it.

The online test will be available from Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. until Friday, August 8th, 2025, at 11:59 P.M. Participants must access the test site via PC and complete the exam online. The test follows the TOEIC format, consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions in Listening and Reading Comprehension, and will be administered by Pagoda SCS. The test site can be accessed at https://www.testclinic.com/univ/DGU. Detailed instructions and the user manual are provided in the attached document. No additional testing sessions will be offered for those who miss the scheduled period.

Results will be announced on Friday, August 15th, 2025, after 5:00 P.M., and can be checked through the Academic Notice section of the university website (www.dongguk.edu).

Based on the test score, students will be assigned to one of six levels (L0–L5), each with specific course requirements. Students in L0, with scores of 900 or above, will be exempt from taking required liberal arts English courses and may take other courses in place of the credits. Students in L1 (700–899) and L2 (500–699) must complete either Global English 2 or Business English 2 for three credits. Students in L3 (400–499) and L4 (below 400) must complete either Global English 1 or Business English 1 for three credits. Students placed in L5, including those who did not take the test, must first complete Basic EAS (0 credits, 2 hours) before progressing to Global English 1 or Business English 1. Completion of the assigned English course(s) is a graduation requirement for all levels except L0.
