[Notice] Recruitment for 2025 Dongguk Japanese Summer School "Student Buddy" Program
Dongguk University’s Global Exchange Team is recruiting student buddies to participate in the "Dongguk Japanese Summer School (DJSS)" scheduled to be held for two weeks from August 3rd to August 14th, 2025.
The Summer School program targets students from Dongguk’s Japanese partner universities and consists of Korean language education, Korean culture lectures, cultural experience programs, and exchanges with Dongguk students. The university is selecting student buddies who wish to engage in exchange programs with visiting Japanese students.
Approximately 24 students will be selected: around 20 exchange buddies, 3 student coordinators, and 1 video production buddy. Exchange buddies and student coordinators will participate in small group exchange activities with about five Japanese students and assist with program operations such as airport pick-up and dormitory move-in support. Student coordinators will additionally lead cultural experience programs, assist with orientation and completion ceremonies, and serve as representatives coordinating communication among all buddies. The video production buddy will be responsible for photographing the program and producing a promotional video approximately four minutes in length.
Applicants must be undergraduate students enrolled in the first semester of 2025, regardless of year or major, and able to communicate in basic Japanese. Students on leave, those who have completed their studies, or those exceeding eight regular semesters may participate in buddy activities but are not eligible for scholarships. Participants must be available for the entire program schedule, with mandatory attendance on August 3rd for support activities and buddy exchange events.
Applications are accepted from June 27th to July 2nd by 3:00 P.M. Interested students should complete the "Application Form" and "Applicant Information Form" and submit them via email to hoonsama@dongguk.edu. Selection will be based on application documents and interviews assessing personality and Japanese language skills.
Selected buddies will receive scholarships to support transportation and meals: 100,000 KRW for exchange buddies, and 200,000 KRW for student coordinators and the video production buddy. Cultural program admissions including Nanta performance, Lotte World, Han River cruise, and Gwangjang Market meal coupons will be provided free of charge. Additionally, summer school T-shirts and souvenirs will be distributed, and participants will receive extra points when applying for exchange programs to Japan.
Important dates include Webex interviews scheduled for July 4th, individual acceptance notifications via email on July 7th, and an on-site orientation session on July 8th or July 9th. For inquiries, please contact the Global Exchange Team on the 9th floor of the New Engineering Building at 02-2260-3463.
