[News] Foster Local Future Buddhist Scholarship Ceremony Was Held

   On July 16th at 2 p.m., the Association of Home Buddhists awarded a scholarship to foster future Buddhists. The ceremony, which took place in the building committee room of the main building, was attended by Chairman Don Kwan, President Yoon Jae-woong, and academic monks. In a welcoming speech, Don Kwan, chairman of the Board of the Association of Home Buddhists, said that Lee Nam-je, the president of the Association of Home Buddhists, wanted to grant scholarships to academic monks. Don Kwan said that he hopes the academic monks will work as monks with pride at Dongguk University and further become a guide of the world. He mentioned that the school’s 29 academic monks will all receive scholarships in August. He delivered scholarships hoping academic monks would be more devoted so that many students could access Buddhism and realize its wisdom. 

   President Yoon Jae-woong emphasized that there have been many scholarship award ceremonies so far, but scholarships to foster future Buddhists in the region are meaningful opportunities for lay Buddhists to give to students. He said he hoped that the monks would become great monks who could take responsibility for the future of Korean Buddhism. In addition, he said that he grants scholarships to help them become great monks who can take responsibility for the future of Korean Buddhism.

   On behalf of the academic monk awarded the scholarship, Wonmyo delivered a letter and a bouquet to the president, Lee Nam-je. He expressed his aspiration to be helpful to more students through the scholarship. He expressed his gratitude again, saying that he will continue to make efforts to convey the teachings of Buddhism.

   Park Ki-ryeon, secretary-general of the Founding School Committee, said that the opening of the Buddhist club at the university in the first semester of 2024 is a great mark in Buddhist society. He emphasized that Buddhists hope to find harmony and development within the university's huge enclosure. On Sep. 24, a place of harmony was set up in Jangchung Gymnasium where Buddhist club members, monks, professors, and scholars gathered in one place. Also, on Sep. 28, meditation will be popularized by Buddhists. In Gwanghwamun, the center of Seoul, people of all ages will meditate and experience Buddhism together. Buddhists want to participate in the two events and widely inherit the Buddhist spirit.
