[News] The Award Ceremony for the 1st Dongguk-Fantagio Drama Scenario Contest Was Held

   On July 8 at 11 a.m., the award ceremony for the 1st Dongguk-Fantagio Drama Scenario Contest was held. The award ceremony, held in the Lotus Hall of the main building, was attended by President Yun Jae-woong, Fantagio CEO Shin Young-jin, Professor Cha Seung-jae of the Graduate School of Digital Image & Content, members of the jury, winners Jung Hee-jung and Park Seo-yul, and acquaintance of the winners. During the application period, which ran from November 2023 to March this year, a total of 208 works were submitted, and 30 works were selected to advance to the main round. Two winners were selected: the Grand Prize, worth 50 million won, and the Runner-up award, worth 20 million won. The winning works will be produced as a drama by Fantagio, and part of the profits from the drama will be donated to Dongguk University. The contest, sponsored by Fantasio and organized by Dongguk University, will continue to be held every two years. 

   The grand prize winner is "Born Bad" by Jung Hee-jung, which is a work in the noir genre. The chairman of the jury said that all the judges were impressed with the author's writing and cited the understated dialog and the cinematic stage direction of the drama as positive evaluation factors. The Runner-up was “Miracle Morning” by Park Seo-yul, which deals with the theme of possession by a spirit. The chairman of the jury noted that the theme of possession can be somewhat clichéd, but the device of time-difference possession was fresh, and the impressive dialog was a factor in the selection. 

   In the winners' acceptance speech, Jung quoted the saying, 'Do it even if you don't want to, feelings disappear, but results remain,' and said that she felt like she faced the consequences herself. She also expressed her gratitude to her family for always supporting her, saying that she is happy to be able to take her story out of the door. Park Seo-yul said that he is glad that the contest gave a his work the opportunity to communicate with many people. He said he is grateful for the opportunity to live a happy life doing what he wants to do even though he doesn't have a good enough situation to write.
